| From a young age Haseo was always very interested by the dead and decaying. He would find himself on regular occasions just staring at the corpses of birds In awe as the ants and the rats would gnaw away at its decaying flesh. He was intrigued by the way that life could be enhanced by death. But people didn’t understand. His family didn’t understand. His mother would grab him by the scruff of the neck and drag him to the bathing house were she would scold his hands with hot water and tell him that “when you start to worship the dead, its not long before you become one of them.” His father took it even worse, being a healer himself, and worked hard to prevent people from meeting their death, he refused to acknowledge him as his son. People just thought he was a disturbed Child. But it got worse.
By the age of 16 he had be Forced to move to a small house in the outskirts of Stygia, away from the Deluxe lifestyle of his Parents. They became sick of even the sight of him; they would not step close enough to him to smell the vile Stench of decay that constantly lingered. They sent him to live with a distant relative, whom he was told to call uncle Havokaras. They said that he would teach him the ways of the mage, and how to be respectable man. But this was a very bad move. With his newly acquired abilities he found that he could kill things with great ease. He would sometimes go wandering it the forests and kill animals with these abilities he would :burn deer, Just because he like the way that the fumes of the burning body would smell and the way the smoke would taste on his lips. Or Freeze a squirrel so that he would watch its little heart slowly come to a halt.
One day, his uncle saw him slaying a bird in the courtyard of his house. Haseo, after hearing his uncle gasp, looked round; they caught each others gaze and stood, staring at one and other for a while, before, Haseo hurried back into the house. Havokaras could see the instant that there eyes met, a corruption in his soul. Before now he had not seen this love for death that Haseo had, and strangely enough, he understood it, and sympathies with it.
After this incident, Haseo did not see his uncle for a while; he had locked himself in his library, only to emerge on the occasion to send Letters. It was many a week before Haseo was summoned to his library. His uncle told him to sit down. Confused, Haseo glanced round the library at the Stacks upon books on his Desk, accompanied by a variety of Skulls; he wondered what he had been doing these past weeks. Havokaras’ voice was exhausted, no doubt from the endless sleepless nights, He said “this obsession with the dead is unhealthy…” he paused for a few moments then continued “…But it can be channelled.” His uncle went on and on about an art called Necromancy, the art of Reanimating the dead. He said that a necromancer controlled the Icy Grasp of death, and that some even Embrace death, joining the Minions in which they have Reanimated. His Uncle took him a great distance, in search of a master Necromancer, who had received Havokaras’ Letters, and agreed to take him under his Wing, Havokaras did not know his name but only knew of him as ‘The Dead.’ After months of travel, the pair came across a small house, in a forest which’s name they never knew. The house was surrounded by decaying corpses, and Slimy skeletons. Haseo knew, just by the sight of this, that this was where he belonged. The two slowly walked towards the grim looking house, stepping over the bodies making sure not to step on them. They had made it about half way through what could only be described as a Marsh of Decay, when Havokaras stop walking. He had seen something move among the bodies. Haseo continued onwards, as he had not noticed his uncle stop. Havokaras looked around franticly as he noticed another movement, and then another. It was the Bodies themselves moving. The bodies began to crawl, and then walk surrounding him. Haseo was to Anxious to notice the trouble behind him, he knocked on the door of the house, and stood there waiting for a reply. Havokaras tried to run, but they Dead had got him, they were now holding him with there Bone hands and then began to hack away at his body with there claws. He knew it was too late, but he let out a cry “Haseo!” As Haseo looked round the door opened and an arm reached from inside and grabbed his arm. “only you may enter” the person from behind the door said. Haseo nodded and turned his back on his Dying uncle, and enter the strange house, never to look back again.
Decades passed before Haseo left that house. Having completed his training, he went travelling, to test his abilities as a Necromancer. He never stayed in one place for long and never took companions with him, he had never had any friends, and Nor did he need them. He Just kept walking, from town to town, City to city, only to stop to collect an item or reward, or to battle, he didn’t battle because of the fighting, but because he like the killing. He never lost, but how can you lose, if you don’t fear death? It was these travels that brought Haseo to the city Kathia. There had been a battle; he could Smell it a Mile away. He followed this stench to the city, where outside the floors were covered in Corpses. He sat among them for a few hours, then set up his bed and slept among them. The next day when he awoke, he travelled to the city gates. There were guards stationed at the gates, “What do you want with the Great city of Kathia?” they questioned in a Brutish manor, he brushed of there question and asked his own “Kathia, did you say?” “Yes! The great city of Kathia build by the House of the new Dawn, and Lead by Rashad, the Mighty Dathanar!” they replied, “ I have a Message for Rashad…” he paused “… Tell him I like His Corpses, and that Haseo, Son of the Dead, would like to add to them”

| ((Very nice story, although there are a few bits that go against Stygian lore... - Quote :
- From a young age Haseo was always very interested by the dead and decaying...
Most Stygians are in fact. Stygia is a decadent theocracy and is characterized by being xenophobic, inscrutable and obsessed with the subjects of death and immortality. Being obsessed with death isn't something that would be looked down upon but nurtured and respected. - Quote :
- But people didn’t understand. His family didn’t understand...
His family would most definitely understand. As I said above the whole culture of Stygia is based around death and immortality. The dead are mummified in long, involved rituals, which call upon the spirits of the underworld to perform many of the required tasks. Necromatic magicians are commonplace, not strange and feared (well, probably feared ). - Quote :
- His father took it even worse, being a healer himself, and worked hard to prevent people from meeting their death...
This ones quite difficult. Normally in most "fantasy" (I know, I know... AoC isn't high fantasy ) worlds where there is magic and religion, they oppose each other for numerous reasons. In Stygia the focus of the magicians and the priests are quite similar so it’s hard to decide whether they would strongly oppose each other. Although my main fault with this piece of your background is that Haseo's father "worked hard to prevent people from meeting their death". Most Priests of Set kill many, many more people than they heal and they have no moral high ground. Anyway, don't take this as an attack at your story. Its constructive criticism . ))

Take advantage of the Stygian "class" system. Contemporary Stygians are a mysterious people whose society is strictly organized in a class system dependant, by and large, upon physical types. The royalty and the most ancient nobles are relatively tall people with black hair and fair skin. Below these, the ruling elite of aristocrats and a powerful middle class are dusky-skinned, hawk-nosed men, haughty of mien. The lowest classes are peasants and slaves of hybrid stock, a mixture of Kushite, Shemite, Hyborian, and Stygian ancestry. I expect the higher classes of Stygia are quite used to priests and magicians as temples of set and magician towers would be found in the richer districts of a city. The peasant class on the other hand, being downtrodden and regualry sacrificed probably fear and hate Necromatic powers. A problem with going down the route of a peasant class family is that you mention Haseo's father is a priest. A priest of set would be in the middle classes at least. By any standard, your background is fine. Specific snippets of lore don't really matter as most roleplayers in AoC won't notice. Go with what you want, I was just trying to make you aware in case you want to stay as close to Hyborian lore as possible! ))
