Oh yes, it's very interesting to know WHY someone picked THAT name, so, let's hear!

I'll go first.

Ravenna Perennial.

Ravenna, is a name I heard from a song. The name sounds dark, demoniacal and ravenous. Which I like...
Perennial, most people think I took it 'couse of the flower. Perennial means also, 'Lasting an indefinitely long time; enduring:'

Lapis is after the stone Lapis Lazuli (Lajward is a ancient persian location where the stone was mined, so the origin of the name isn't really egyptian but persian)

Atherius Delaan.

Is a light modification of my name from WoW Atherius Delander. I long ago picked Atherius as a latinification of Arthur, King of the Britons. Delander was a homage to the old Lander games where you had to land a small space-ship before you ran out of fuel.

Long ago I was also known as Spurius Didius Cesareasus when I was part of a Roman reenactment-group called Legio XV.

It is worth mentioning that long ago I had some basic latin.

I honestly just think up all my names on the spot so they dont tend to have a particular meaning, Sedrian was originally a name i gave to a Human Berserker from Qeynos that I played on Eq2, Araveromon was the lastname also of a Eq2 Character I had who was a Barbarian Guardian. If i play an alt atall they will likely be named Zerdrid or Thesdan, another two human names i use alot that i just made up on the spot.

Khalid; Egyptian and means "Immortal"
Osahar; Egyptian and means "God hears me."

There's no real story behind why i choose "Khalid Osahar" as a name, Me and a friend (the girl on Zahra's portrait) ((and also Rashad was giving some hints over msn)) were sitting around and building sentences really and tried to find a fitting name. Since Khalid is some sort of preacher, i wanted something like "They hear me" or similar. He's deeply religious too for that matter and believes in his -god- Damak, so after tossing around some sentances we figured out "The immortal god hears me"... We looked it up and wallah.... Tada! Khalid Osahar ;
His Daughter Zahra was a bit more tricky tough, the name "Zahra" we just picked out from the thin air, without knowing what it ment or anything, firstly we thought the name was a bit Arabic... but it turns out it was Egyptian to and that it actually meant something.

Zahra; Egyptian and means "Flower"
Un; unknown origin... Used in some different cultures for example Islamic and means both "Son of" and "Daughter of"
Osahar; as above... Egyptian and means "God hears me".

That said... and as Khalid's name... you should build sentences upon names, therefore Zahra un Osahar would be "A Flower from the immortal god that hears me". I find it kinda wicked ^^.

Well.. Ravenousness Enduring or Ravenous Flower. Both are rather nice.

I just pick a name by sound, really. Start with something that sound right, let it roll over my tongue a few times, adjust until I like. No other meaning has to be sought behind it.

Not to bash it in anyway, but, sounds somewhat elvish? ^^

Hmm, tricky one for me... No idea about meaning.

I can't really remember .

I decided to go Aesir so I thought of what the culture represented in terms of the real world culture and Norse/Scandinavian came out on top. When I create names It normally goes something like this (normally takes an hour or so to think this ...):

"Vhaggn,
Vorgar,
Vrogrund,
Vogrund,
V-vo... Voland?
Volund...
Volund!"

Usually this provides me with a fairly original name but in this case perhaps I should have at least googled it first... *sigh*, thats mythology for you (Kinda got me scared that someone's gonna steal my name before I can create character ).

That was what I was going for. Stygian culture is based on Egypt if I'm not mistaking, so it makes sense.
for those of you interested, the last name is based on the real egyption name "Anuk'Tsunamon", but since I didn't want to take it literally, I changed it somewhat. (She's the egyptian princess in The Mummy, by the way)
